The moon phase mechanism has long been a popular “complication” in mechanical watches. With this quartz watch model, you can see the current phase of the moon, such as a full or crescent moon, by checking the rotating moon phase plate. The mysterious and romantic beauty of the moon’s changing phases give the watch face an added touch of splendor. The design of the Classic Moon Phase follows in the footsteps of the simple, slim form of Knot’s popular Classic series, available as a design pair in two sizes, 38mm and 34mm.

The moon phase on your wrist.

The moon phase plate, which takes 59 days to complete one revolution (29.5 days for half a revolution), rotates so that you can observe the changing phases of the moon on your wrist, whether a full moon, crescent moon, first quarter or third quarter moon.

※The rotation of the moon phase plate is subject to slight deviations and should be manually adjusted on a regular basis.

The lunar calendar,
based on the moon phase cycle

The solar calendar (Gregorian calendar) that we use today is based on the time taken for the Earth to orbit once around the sun, representing one year.
The lunar calendar, on the other hand, has been in use since before the common era, and was used in Japan until the Meiji period (about 150 years ago). With this calendar, a month is the time taken for the moon to complete one lunar cycle, from a new moon to a full moon, and back again. The moon phase mechanism visually represents the movement of the moon, which has been closely associated with people’s lives since ancient times.

Triple calendar

With a 38mm face, the CMP-38 features a triple calendar with separate sub-dials for the month, date, and day of the week. Combined with the moon phase plate, it has a striking visual appearance.

Beautifully contrasting textures

The central part of the watch has a grain texture, while the outer edge has a sunray or matte finish of the same color, matching the chosen color variant. The contrast in textures complements the moon phase plate and creates a three-dimensional aesthetic unique to analogue watches.

An attractive design pair with different expressions

The Classic Moon Phase is available as a complementary design pair, in 38mm and 34mm versions. Even when not used as a pair, each size is a comfortable fit for both men and women.
