SUKIMO LEATHER
A distinctive, colorful pattern that makes a striking impression – once seen, never forgotten.
Sukimo leather is a one-of-a-kind material created by Kunio Okubo, a leather craftsman who runs the Okubo Shoten leather craft store in Tokyo (Taito Ward) with over 100 years of history. “Sukimo” is the technique of creating intricate patterns by squeezing together multiple layers of tanned leather. The unique patterns, which are entirely down to Mr. Okubo’s sublime creativity, are true works of art. Every Sukimo leather strap is its own one-off creation, as no pattern will ever be the same. When you set eyes upon it, the sight is unforgettable.
Sukimo leather is a type of leather developed independently by craftsman Kunio Okubo. It is made by embossing multiple slices of leftover grain leather, and pressing them together to create a unique pattern that results from the texture of the embossed surface.
Even if the color is the same, the leather material is cut differently for each pattern, creating a different look for every finished piece. The beauty of something that is unique in the world, that is unlike any other, adds a special touch of radiance to your wrist.
From left to right, the color variants are Dark Brown Oak, with its beautiful combination of three shades of brown; Dark Brown Black, with the striking interplay of its brown and black pattern; Black, with its elegant charcoal-like look; and Oak, with its natural pattern resembling oak wood grain.
The unique Sukimo material has the appearance of wood but the texture of leather, adorning your wrist with a playful touch of style.
MUSUBU PARTNERS
Mr. Okubo became a leather craftsman after following in the footsteps of his father, who was a leather craftsman who made leather for the inside heels of shoes. He recounts how the origin of Sukimo stemmed from his desire to create something that he alone, uniquely as a craftsman, could make.
