invented by an artistic leather craftsman, and represents a completely unique offering.
Okubo Shoten is located a short distance away from Asakusa, where many traditional artisans conduct their
craft.
Mr. Kunio Okubo, the creator of Sukimo leather, has been running a leather processing business in this
location for almost half a century. He is an authentic leather craftsman who has honed his skills over some 70
years. He began on this journey soon after completing junior high school, following in the footsteps of his father
who was himself a leather artisan.
The Sukimo leather made by Kunio Okubo, which transcends the boundaries of
leather craft to encompass painting and other art forms, is made by repurposing leftover materials.
It is a
one-of-a-kind leather produced through a sustainable approach which makes the most effective use of resources,
creating patterns made possible by the craftsman’s unique creative sensibility.
