Hakata-ori is a popular local craft good sold in Hakata, Fukuoka Prefecture. Considered among the three top textiles in Japan, it is a traditional fabric that has been in use since the Kamakura period (1185-1333 CE). During the Edo period (1603-1868 CE), Kuroda Nagamasa sent Hakata-ori textiles as tribute to the shogunate. The patterns used in those fabrics featured a stripe motif placed in between a "tokko hanazara" pattern used in tribute items, so the pattern came to be called the "tribute pattern" and became an emblem of Hakata-ori. Now, Knot's original strap features that Hakata-ori in that classic tribute pattern. Enjoy history and tradition on your wrist with this pattern.
