Maito Design Works, started in 2010, using Vegetable dyeing methods to make unique and beautiful leather. Every piece of leather has soft color drawn from nature. We collaborated with Maito Design Works in order to bringing this soft color to your wristwear fashion.

They are making various kind of products by utilizing their own lab and also the tradition techniques of craftsmen all across Japan. They give a support and go with the Japan's manufacturing tradition that are being lost.

“Botanical leather”
dyed with plants and trees. ¥6,000

“Botanical Leather" is a 100% plant-derived vegetable dyeing leather. The color of the dyed leather varies depending on the season and the time of the day they work for, and therefore you never get the same pattern or color. By using natural materials, the leather is not only gently dyed, but also its texture and color nicely changes as it is being used.

Enhance material itself by minimalizing extra sewing

The natural feel of material itself is enhanced by not using any stitches to the leather. You can enjoy the soft color and unevenness of botanical leather as it is.

Japanese Yakusugi cedar dyeing

Using the wood chips and leaves of Japanese Yakusugi cedar that came out when making furniture, and boiled for many days to extract the color that lies deep within the Japanese Yakusugi cedar.

Indigo has been a popular color in the Edo period. At MAITO, we mainly use Sukumo, a fermented indigo plant made from Tokushima, which has been regarded as the best indigo plant since the Edo period.

Akane madder dyeing

”Akane” means red in Japanese, and it is named because of the root of the plant is red. The root is said to have blood-purifying, and detoxifying function. It is also the oldest red dye used in Japan, and the red of the Japanese flag is also dyed with this color.
