髙田織物株式会社

Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture

Established in 1892 in Kojima in Kurashiki, overlooking the Seto Inland Sea, Takada Orimono continues to explore new possibilities for Tatami-Beri while respecting Japanese traditions and culture.

Tatami-Beri is used to line the edges of woven tatami mats. The history of Tatami-Beri dates back to the Nara period (710-794 CE), when high-class families and organizations placed custom orders for this trim to line the tatami mats within their homes and companies.
For some 130 years, Takata Orimono has continued to take on innovative challenges and expand the applications for Tatami-Beri designs. In 1962, the company successfully produced a Tatami-Beri trim made of plain cotton with a jacquard weave pattern.
In recent years, tatami trim created by Takata Orimono has been adopted by leading European fashion brands, bringing Tatami-Beri to the attention of the global fashion industry.
