Rather than the traditional pass-through construction, the design has been reworked to allow compatibility with smartwatches such as Apple Watch. It is a piece that brings the functional beauty of military classics to the modern wrist with ease.
The DNA of NATO lives on
Traditional NATO straps are typically made of nylon, but Kajiwara combines water-resistant leather that stands up to sweat and moisture, incorporating elements of NATO functionality into a new form.
Reinterpreting the “function” of NATO
Conventional NATO straps are known for their durability and practicality, most often made from tough nylon. Lightweight, strong, and built to withstand a wide range of conditions, that toughness is part of their appeal. However, Knot has taken on the challenge of reinterpreting NATO through leather.
Soft and supple, the water-resistant leather conforms comfortably to the wrist, offering a warmth and depth that nylon cannot provide. Paired with the stainless steel keepers, it enhances the classic, refined character of military style.

A leading figure in Japan’s fashion industry, Yoshikage Kajiwara is the former creative director of BEAMS, one of Japan’s most influential select shops founded in 1976, known for its foundation in American casual style and its wide-ranging offerings spanning fashion, lifestyle goods, interiors, and art. Now the head of LOWERCASE, he develops refined, functional designs for modern adults. This strap, conceived and developed by Kajiwara, marks the debut of the collaboration.The first release is a NATO-style strap – “a modern NATO” – in which the aesthetics and functionality of the original are reinterpreted by Knot THE STRAP for today.
