Showen Kumihimo 13 Uchi
A kumihimo strap that balances durability
with a smooth, comfortable feel
As its name suggests, this kumihimo strap is crafted by braiding thirteen individual cords into a single belt, refining it into a distinctive piece of wristwear. By combining highly durable materials with water-resistant leather, it has been reimagined as a functional strap capable of withstanding thorough washing.
The subtle sheen of interwoven threads, with the understated elegance of kumihimo

The three-dimensional texture created by braiding twisted cords brings together refinement and softness, lending a sense of depth and richness even for single-color patterns.
A clean, one-tone design

Developed in response to customer requests for a single-color kumihimo strap, this model features color-matched water-resistant leather for a simple design that pairs well with any style.
Balancing durability with a smooth feel

The kumihimo cord is made using SILLOOK®, a material developed exclusively by TORAY. It offers a silk-like feel without compromising the character of the braid, and delivers excellent durability, including anti-static, stain-resistant, water-repellent, and oil-repellent properties.

Fully washable
When odor or dirt becomes a concern, the strap can be washed in its entirety. The leather components use water-resistant leather, so it can be worn even when wet.

Exceptional breathability
Kumihimo is highly breathable, allowing for comfortable wear over long periods. It helps reduce moisture buildup from perspiration, minimizing discomfort and irritation.
A perfect fit, every time
If you’ve ever found standard strap holes limiting – too tight or just slightly too loose – this design offers a solution.
With the Kumihimo 13-Uchi construction, the buckle can be inserted between the braided gaps, allowing for fine adjustments to achieve your ideal fit.
Handcrafts

Each 13-Uchi strap is created by artisans who spend time braiding over 10 meters of cord. Craftsmen from the long-established Kyoto atelier Showen Kumihimo employ a braiding technique specifically adapted for wristwatches, transforming the material into a finished product.

A traditional craft from Kyoto
Kumihimo has been used since the Heian period in a wide range of applications, from Shinto and Buddhist ceremonial items to samurai armor and decorative furnishings. Traditionally associated with Japanese attire, it has been reinterpreted through extensive research into a watch strap suited for casual wear.

The possibilities of kumihimo continue to expand
At Showen Kumihimo, artisans explore these possibilities daily, developing products that reflect the needs of each era.
